About Us

Meyer Bookbinding started as a part time business in 1992. With the help of my brother who is a master bookbinder in Nashville, I learned the craft of book restoration. The business grew steadily while I worked full time at area hospitals repairing electronic medical equipment. Finally in 1995, I realized what I ‘really’ wanted to do. I quit my day job and have not looked back since.

We operated our bindery in the basement of our home for many years before moving to a rented facility on Osborne Street. After 3 years there, we purchased a one hundred year old building in the business district of Auburn NY. This building had been a tavern for over 75 years. We renovated the 1500 square foot facility, removing the bar and coolers and turning it into the bookbindery we continue to run today.

We host the Auburn History Club meetings weekly at the bookbindery. I guess you can’t be in the book restoration business without becoming interested in history. The club meets nearly every Friday afternoon, in a back room of the bookbindery that we have renamed The History Room. Surrounded by many old maps hanging on the walls, "History is spoken here" is an understatement.

The bookbindery belongs to many of the area historical societies. I have spoken about bookbinding at many an evening meeting at these originazations.

Each year we produce a new book, calendar or series of postcards that we sell in the lobby of our shop. These specialty items are always related to the history of our town. Watch for announcements concerning what we will be offering this Holiday season!
